A health supplement home business opportunity is often the first way someone is introduced to network marketing. These programs usually rely on “continuity” (a fancy word for a “subscription”) in order for the distributor to make money.
Here’s how it works:
- You sign up as a distributor for “Tibetazonian Super Noni Guava Laxative Cleanse Juice and Sunscreen”. You agree to order a certain amount of the juice/sunscreen in order to satisfy your “BV” or buying volume requirements each month (this is known as an “autoship”).
- You go out and tell every one how great “Tibetazonian Super Noni Guava Laxative Cleanse Juice and Sunscreen” is, and inform them that this is the best health supplement home business opportunity in the history of mankind! Ground-floor opportunity! Fortunes will be made! Sunburns will be avoided!
- You get a few friends to try it out, and they agree it tastes great, but can’t justify the cost (”After all, can’t I just buy this stuff at the store for less?”). You are discouraged. You wonder why your friends and family can’t see the obvious benefits of a laxative that prevents sunburn and tastes great. “What’s wrong with you people!” Your family thinks all that laxative and time in the sun has gone to your head.
- You start going negative on your autoship since you haven’t gotten anyone else to buy the product. You realize that you have a closet full of laxative/sunscreen, and you’ve run out of toilet paper and live in Alaska. You cancel your autoship and decide that you will start it again after you’ve used your current supply of “Tibetazonian Super Noni Guava Laxative Cleanse Juice and Sunscreen”.
- However, you still feel bad about your recent loss of revenue, so you decide to try selling a few bottles on eBay, only to find that the market is flooded with laxative/sunscreen. Apparently, all the people who shop on eBay have healthy digestion and live in Alaska, too. You are seriously bummed.
Seriously, if you are taking a product you really believe in, I don’t want to harsh on anyone’s company. I simply want to make a point that you should think about what you’re getting into before choosing a network marketing company as a home business opportunity.
Ask yourself the following questions when evaluating a health supplement home business opportunity (or any company, for that matter):
- Has the company passed its 2-year birthday? Most new network marketing companies fail during their first two years; although it’s not a fail-proof litmus test, any company that lasts past its second birthday is probably going to be around for a while.
- Is the company’s primary product unique in the market? In other words, does it satisfy an unfilled need among consumers? Does it solve a problem or alleviate an inconvenience? Does it do something that no other product in the market can do? Is it something people would buy even if they didn’t get paid for referring and recommending it to others? Would you recommend it even if you weren’t getting paid to talk about it?
- Does the company rely on “autoship” orders for a great deal of the money paid out in it’s compensation plan? Here’s an industry statistic they probably don’t want you to know about… 3 months is the industry average for how long people stay with nutritional supplement autoship continuity plans. That doesn’t mean everyone drops out, but you need to be aware that people typically do not stay on autoship for very long. So, you have to make sure your company’s flagship product is “sticky”; in other words, something that people will continue to use month after month.
- Or, do they offer “fast-start” bonuses that allow you to make a little extra money on the front-end to help you get going? Then, that’s a good thing. Why? Well, knowing the industry dropout rate, that means you can weed out the people who are going to drop out anyway while you’re finding your builders and still make enough money to pay for your own business activities.
Let me close by saying that I don’t think all health supplement home business opportunities are bad; however, I want you to research companies carefully before you make a decision to join and start trying to build a business.

Dream boards, also known as vision boards, are powerful tools to help us visualize exactly what we want to accomplish. They are basically a method of “mapping out” your vision for where you want to be, what you want to achieve, and the life you desire.
Now, I’d like you to meet my own personal support and encouragement team, my beautiful wife Deanna. That’s her on the left there, standing next to the bleary-eyed guy who slept in that day.
